Dr. Wolf-Rüdiger Nickel, President of ICADTS, received training in psychology and medicine at the universities of Berlin and Braunschweig, Germany. He established Medical-Psychological Institutes in several federal states of the former German Democratic Republic. He has been a member of the advisory group for the Federal Ministry of Transport, and a member of the accreditation committee of the Federal Highway Research Board since 2004. He was a member of the TRB Committee on Alcohol, Other Drugs, and Transportation from 1998 – 2001 and again from 2006 on. He was a member of the Editorial Board of Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety, Current Research Literature and Editor-in-Chief of that journal from 1994 – 1998. His research activities include: evaluation of drink drive rehabilitation courses, outcome evaluation of psychological assessment, more than 50 corresponding publications. He is involved in the development of criteria for process and outcome evaluation; development of guidelines for quality management in medical-psychological assessment and corresponding publications. He has been active in quality management review activities for several research projects of the EU. He is currently retired and engaged in various consulting and research activities.
