Dr. Jean-Pascal Assailly

Dr. Jean-Pascal Assailly is a Senior Researcher at INRETS (French National Institute of Research on Transport Safety). He has been working in the field of alcohol and drugs for the past 15 years, and has been a member of ICADTS since 1992. Before his work with INRETS, Dr. Assailly worked with the French Ministry of Health looking at children in the foster care system and their adult outcomes.

He has conducted studies on accidents caused by drivers leaving bars and night clubs, subjective estimates of BAC by young road users, and DWI countermeasures evaluations. He is very active in the development of French national traffic safety policies and working with the media on traffic safety prevention. He has collaborated on a number of collaborative European projects including FERSI, GADGET, ANDREA and DRUID. His domains of expertise include child pedestrian and passenger, accidents etiology and prevention, driver training strategies, traffic safety education in schools, international comparison of traffic safety measures, screening cameras, and older driver accidents epidemiology and prevention.

Dr. Assailly has participated in the collective expertise of the French medical research on the social consequences of drinking and his future work will look to the rehabilitation of alcohol-dependent drivers and the prevalence of illicit drugs in accidents. He is currently working in Vietnam to development the country’s driver education system.
