Dr. Thomas Brown is the Director of the Addiction Research Programs of both the Douglas Mental Health University Institute and Foster Addiction Rehabilitation Centre, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, and Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Team in Transdisciplinary Studies in DWI Onset, Persistence, Treatment and Prevention. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1990 at Concordia University in Experimental and General Psychology in Montreal. Currently, his multidisciplinary team is conducting descriptive, experimental and longitudinal research into the neurobiological, psychological, psychosocial and socio-legal underpinnings of repeat DWI offending, development and randomized controlled trials of brief substance abuse intervention technologies for deployment in frontline and opportunistic settings, and knowledge transfer strategies to encourage evidence-informed substance abuse and DWI intervention and policy.
